Mobile Data Offload
Mobile data traffic is growing at an exponential rate. Every mobile operator requires a mobile data offload strategy to conserve spectrum & meet future subscriber data demands.
802.11 WiFi or WLAN has emerged as a logical choice for mobile data offload on smart phones (Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile) & tablets such as the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy & others.
Supported implementations of mobile data offload are :
- 3GPP iWLAN - traffic is tunneled to the mobile core using a TTG and onward to the GGSN. Requires iWLAN compatiable terminals.
- EAPSIM with Local Breakout - provides an easy way for operators to offload traffic to local IP transit available at the hotspot while authenticating subscribers with the mobile core using SIM credentials.
- Seamless Session Handover - Switch between 2G, 3G or 4G mobile networks & WiFi network(s)
- Secure SIM authentication - No portal or login required, supports EAP-SIM & EAP-AKA
- Seamless Charging - Integrate directly with existing IN & post pay systems.
- SIGTRAN & SS7 Integrated - Connect directly with STP using SIGTRAN. Full suite of MAP methods available to integrate with mobile core
- Session Metering - Use Inventum MSC Service Controllers to measure & control each packet
- PCEF - Per Session QoS & Policy Enforcement
- Billing Integration - 3GPP AAA, IN, PCRF, etc.

Using Inventum's UNIFY 3GPP AAA module & MSC service controllers, mobile carriers can seamlessly offload their mobile data traffic to WiFi networks including third party public hotspots.
The Inventum solution supports both iWLAN & EAPSIM based deployments including SIM authentication, IN, PCRF, HLR & other mobile core policy & charging interfaces. Uniquely, Inventum's MSC controllers can provide edge policy enforcement (PCEF) if back-haul to the GGSN is not available as may be the case in third party hotspots.
