India’s largest mobile operator, Airtel has selected Inventum’s UNIFY Service Management Platform (SMP) to comply with recent department of telecommunications (DoT) regulations for central authentication of all WiFi users connected to an ISP network.
The regulation specifically seeks to secure all WLAN end-points, including those at retail subscriber’s homes. Apart from authentication, each subscriber is expected to encrypt airwaves using standards such as WPA2.
“It seems that the regulation aims to curb unlawful use of open WiFi access points” said Sachin Mehra, Managing Director of Inventum.
Under the contract Inventum’s UNIFY SMP shall be used to centrally authenticate all qualifying Airtel broadband subscribers. The solution shall also provide a self-care portal & tools for subscribers to easily configure their systems.
Inventum has delivered similar solutions in the past to leading operators Spectranet & Tikona Digitial Networks.
